# Install and update okibi

> Install the okibi CLI on macOS, Linux, or Windows, keep it current, and remove it.

okibi is a small client for the hosted Okibi platform. It has no build engine and holds no keys of its own.

## Install

**macOS and Linux**

```sh
curl -fsSL https://okibi.ai/install | sh
```

**Windows**

```powershell
irm https://okibi.ai/install.ps1 | iex
```

Then check it worked:

```sh
okibi --version
```

## What the installer does

1. Detects your OS and architecture and reads the current release from `releases.okibi.ai/latest.json`.
2. Downloads the matching archive and **verifies its SHA-256** before unpacking it.
3. Installs `okibi` and `okibi-tui`. On macOS and Linux they live under `~/.local/share/okibi` and are linked into `~/.local/bin`. On Windows they live under `%LOCALAPPDATA%\okibi` and okibi is added to your PATH.
4. Installs the Okibi agent skill into `~/.agents/skills/okibi` and links it into the coding agents it finds. See [The okibi skill](https://okibi.ai/docs/agents/skill.md).

Running the installer again upgrades okibi and its skill in place.

> **Note** If your shell can't find `okibi` on macOS or Linux, add `~/.local/bin` to your `PATH`.

## Change where it installs

Set these before running the installer:

| Variable | Default | Controls |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `OKIBI_INSTALL_ROOT` | `~/.local/share/okibi` | Where versions are unpacked |
| `OKIBI_BIN_DIR` | `~/.local/bin` | Where `okibi` is linked |
| `OKIBI_SKILLS_DIR` | `~/.agents/skills` | Where the agent skill is installed |

## Update

okibi checks the signed release channel in the background and updates itself. To check right now:

```sh
okibi update
```

To turn off background updates, set `OKIBI_NO_AUTO_UPDATE=1`.

## Uninstall

On macOS and Linux, remove the binaries, the installed versions, the skill, and the saved login:

```sh
okibi auth logout
rm -rf ~/.local/share/okibi ~/.agents/skills/okibi ~/.config/okibi ~/.okibi
rm -f ~/.local/bin/okibi ~/.local/bin/okibi-tui
```

Then delete the `okibi` links in your agents' skill folders. [The okibi skill](https://okibi.ai/docs/agents/skill.md) lists where they are.
